BIO: Fundamental Elements

DELIVERY OF MUSIC AND MESSAGE ON THE PREREQUISITE IS DOPE ENOUGH TO THROW DOWN AGAINST THE TOP TIER OF AUSTRALIAN HIP-HOP SHOWING JUST WHY BRIS-BANG’S FUNDAMENTAL ELEMENTS ARE TWO MCs HOLDING THE GAUNTLET.

MCs Species and Pleura of Fundamental Elements (FE) have long shared a vision to put the Boom-Bap back into a local rap scene that has, at times, somewhat lost focus. Both rappers have been able to cage the energy of a live gig and hype of a full house in the studio and unleash it through their recordings. Their honest and direct lyrical approach to personal issues, politics and their respect for true hip-hop culture is laid over rap tracks cooked and seasoned by beatsmiths Leaf Dog, Soley and FE’s own Pleura.

Early 2013 FE dropped their second EP, The Homecoming, first single and title-track ‘The Homecoming’ received high-rotation on Triple J’s Hip Hop Show (with Hau). Their second single ‘Independence’ also received national airplay and regular rotation on Brisbane local station 4ZZZ with the film-clip choking air-time on ABC’s legendary video programme, Rage. This, in turn, caught the attention of Aussie hip-hop’s crowned royals Hilltop Hoods who threw in their support for the film-clip through social media. Production on the EP came primarily from Species and Pleura and accompanied with a healthy shot of beats from local Brisbane beatsmith Cam Bluff (Vegas Aces, Born Fresh) who, in his own right, is steadily carving out his own place in the Australian hip-hop scene.

FE were recently the main support for the High Focus Records’ Smoke My Tour Brisbane show. Past shows have seen the crew share stages with international headliners; Immortal Technique (US) and Eastborn (UK) as well a long list of local heavyweights Muph and Plutonic, Lazy Grey, Jake Biz, Illzilla, The Tongue, Maundz, Tommy Illfigga, Dialect & Despair, DJ Katch (Resin Dogs), Brass (Celcius Crew), Rainman and Calksi, Daily Meds, Kings Konekted, Pure Product and Coalition Crew. FE have also featured on various albums and releases including Read Between The Rhymes by The Allegiance, Velvet Couch and Clockwork Records: Fun Not Fame Mixtape Vol 1, 2 and 3, Nurcha Mixtape Vol. 2 by Nurcha Records and other solid collaborations across the national scene.

During 2014, FE have been busy turning out new music in the shape of their latest EP; The Prerequisite, which hosts strong in-house production by Pleura with help from Leaf Dog (High Focus Records, Four Owls).

Fundamental Elements have not changed their game plan, they’ve always been about making dope rap to reflect their scene, and throw back to that boom-bap soundscape. Their third installment through Clockwork Records and the Velvet Couch massive EP The Prerequisite shines with the same crispness we’ve come to expect from a FE-hip-hop release.

This right here is the voice of Bris City’s finest, at it’s loudest. Heads up!
